The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Random Lockups in Xp Professional

Asked by samnikh in Miscellaneous Hardware

Tags: , ,

Ive been using XP professional for quite some time now on the same machine. About 2-3 weeks back my computer suddenly locked up while i was trying to open a pdf file with Acrobat . I tried CTRL+ALT+DEL but nothing happened , even the mouse was stuck at one position . I tried to put my system on standby by pressing the power button on my cabinet but again NOTHING .. The hard disk LED wasnt blinking at all . After that day i have continued to experience the same problem randomly . I installed ACTIVE SMART to monitor my drives and it does report a change in the SPIN UP time  but i guess thats cause i reboot the computer . But i still dunno . After trying several other things like verifying the integrity of the system files and Repairing the windows Installation I got really fed up and formatted my drive hoping that the problem would go away. I reinstalled XP on a freshly formatted partition only to find that the problem still remains . I am totally clueless as to whats happening but i have a strong feeling its not a virus or a software glich as it continues even after Formatting my disk.

NOTE : Although the locukp takes place randomly but i have noted that whenever im trying to play video files (specifically .MPEG) the system surely Locks up .. Please help . Here are my system specifications .

Celeron 433 Mhz
128 MB SDRAM
Win Xp prrofessional
Samsung 40 GB (Primary)
Quantum 4.1 Gb (Secondary)

Thanks
