The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. Hardware recommendation for new system - mid/high end

Hi all!

I'm planning on building a new computer, for home (intensive!) use. I want it to be a kick-ass system, that can remain up to date even with few upgrades in the coming time (months? hehe...).
I can spend somewhat about 700-900€ ($1040-1170) on the components, minus case, and minus the harddisks(got plenty of 'em).
It has to be a A64 system, socket 939.

You can enter any config you want freely, pluses for extra features, stability&reliability, and lower cost while keeping good performance.

The system will be used to game (HL2 too, so no NV GF5xxx series GPU), encode (no AMD vs Intel discussions, in my price range A64 is better - period.), maybe dual-boot system with mild server application. Good disk acces (Acces time, I/O prestations) is a must, so RAID functions also is a plus.

So far my attention was cought by:

Mainboards:
MSI K8N NEO2 PLat (nF3) (+ for $: € 137.82) .....
Asus A8N SLI (nF4) (+ for PCI-e & SLI) (170€) - don't know diff between 'normal' and 'deluxe' ver yet.
Asus A8V Deluxe (K8T800) (+ for $: €129.78)

Vidcards:
NV GeF6600 / 6800

Ram:
Apacer ???

PSU:
400W silent ???

Any recommendations, with some explanation towards choice, will be greatly appreciated!

It's quite hard to outline what I'm looking for, this will become clearer over the posts, imo. You may also contribute one component of which you know enough - points will be split as fair as possible!
