The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Seek help - CPU Clock Settings Shut Down System

Asked by loral in Miscellaneous Hardware, Hardware Components

(I had this question posted a few days ago, and after flashing the BIOS with the latest upgrade, I thought the problem was solved, because the POST display was showing the CPU as an XP 3000+, but I rushed and awarded points only to find I have the same shut down problem)  Here is my original post again, and I still need help.

Hello,

I built a new system with these parts:

Antec Case - 450w power supply
ePoX 8RDA6+ Pro mobo
AMD Barton 3000+ CPU 400mhz
2gb Patriot DDR pc3200 400mhz (2 sticks - 1gb each)
Twin WD Raptor HD's
etc etc.....

My problem is the clock settings or some setting in BIOS is not working and the system shuts down on me. It shuts down if I set the CPU Clock (to what I thought was correct) in BIOS.

I've set it to:

166 FSB, 13 * 166
133 FSB  13 * 166
200 FSB   10.5 * 200

I just can't get the Post to display anywhere near the "correct" CPU.  The highest I've had is 1750mhz.

I finally just reset the BIOS and am installing the OS at 1050mhz and 100 and auto for the CPU clock.

There is a jumper on the board and I've left it at the default of 133/166/200 mhz, and I also tried the other setting of just 100/133.

Can someone advise me on the correct settings so I'm not underclocking this system, and I can get it to run at the correct speeds without it shutting down on me?

Thanks in advance,

Loral
