Browse All TopicsHello everyone,
I'm new to EE, so I hope I'm providing all necessary to help solve the problem I'm experiencing. I have a number of Dell Latitude C640 laptops with an XP operating system.
For some reason my sound/multimedia device has dropped from the device manager list and no sound can be played. I've attempted to play system files and CDs with no luck. I've reloaded the driver for the sound card from the Dell website, but still no luck.
I've used Belarc and Everest to determine if the laptop's hardware can be detected, with no luck. Belarc identifies the multimedia device as "Crystal WDM Audio Codec", but Everest isn't showing a driver installed under the multimedia (PCI/PnP Audio) section.
One of my other laptops show there should be a PCI device called "Intel 82801 CA ICH3-S-AC'97 Audio Controller [B-1]" installed. Tried searching the network for the Intel device with no luck. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
The device manager list shows the "Crystal WDM Audio Codec" with a yellow exclamation mark indicating there is a problem. When double clicking on the exclamation mark, see that there is an error (Code 10) listed indicating "This device cannot start". Checked the driver version on the working system with the driver version on the problem system and found that they are different. Wanted to find the location of the working driver on the internet, but couldn't. The working driver version is 6.13.10.4151 while the problem system is 6.13.10.4159. The location under the General tab of the working system indicates "PCI bus 0, device 31, function 5 while the problem system indicates "unknown". All tabs show different information, which is expected if different versions are used. Thought it might be a conflict problem since the device was imaged from the working system about a week ago.
