Ok on my "old" desktop (i got it in 1999, so its not "that old") .. it was starting to slow down, but I noticed it was even slower then usual.... I have a laptop now, so i didn't use the desktop as much.... anyway, one day after the previous day being on it and it was slowing up, but ok.... i booted up to see it showed no HDD in the BIOS...
i have tried checking the cables, and all that, but now i have changed the IDE's (i have a cdrw and a dvdrw in the machine too).. IT HAD WORKED WITH ALL THIS STUFF FOR AWHILE BEFORE, so in case your thinking I installed a dvdrw and then it started.. no..... I have Changed the idE's connectors to the MB (which connector is with what cable, and the drives so much, i managed to boot the system to have it see NO DRIVE... lol, i am sure with messing with it i can at leaset get it back to the original problem ... . anyway for people who may reply, here it goes
Desktop machine with 4 drives: DVDRW, CDRW, 40gig HDD, and 12GIG HDD.... as i said it was the two hdd, but all the other drives HAD appeared fine.... i may have just gotten a ribbon cable backwards to goof up the cdrw's /...
i have been told it could be 1) the MB 2) the IDE cable 3) the P.Supply, 4) the HDD's themselves.... (narrows it down for me, eh?...lol )
I dont know WHY, but i think the HDD's are fine... .call it a gut feeling.... could be wrong though ...
Thanks for anyone who can point me in the right direction
