The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

PC WON'T LOAD WINDOWS XP OR WIN2000

Here is the story.

Customer bought faulty PC to me. Compaq Presario S5020AN (3 Weeks out of 1yr Warranty)
Turned on, powered up, but wouldn't post.
After putting in a brand new power supply to no effect I decided it was a motherboard fault.

Ordered a Winfast K7S741MG

Pulled out the old board, installed the new board and changed over the old RAM, and old CPU, replaced all the cables, reset the CMOS, turned it on and YES!! away it went.

Came up with Athlon XP2400+ CPU (which is right) and then proceeded to TRY and load Win XP.

PC crashed with blue screen. Exception error.
Thought ok, could need rebuild. (Different Motherboard etc etc, Fussy Win XP etc)
So I Wiped HDD, and tried to reload a fresh copy of XP.

Each and every time I TRIED to Load XP Home it just crashed with a blue exception screen.
Tried Win2000 Pro with the same result.

Tried to put a Duron 800 CPU in but that didn't even post. Stupid Winfast (Foxconn) site doesn't say if CPU is even compatible with motherboard but the Sales Rep that sold it to me does.

Have also tried 3 different types of 256MB PC2700 333 DDR RAM but they all do the same thing.
I have some good quality Legend DDR400 RAM in the PC I'm using now but am reluctant to use that.

Problem seems to be also getting worse now. I no longer get any exception errors.
After putting in the XP-Home CDROM it proceeds to load all the drivers and stuff but now gets to:
"Windows is starting up", then it loads the Keyboard drivers and then turns itself off.

If it was mine I would have used my Tractor to fix it by giving it a "Run down" .................
...But its a customers and I'm sure he'd like to get it back fixed and with an operating system on it.

Any ideas people???
