Using hyperterminal to test a Toledo Mettler Scale on COM1

Hi there,
I have a very old Toledo Mettler scale that I am trying to hook up to my serial port (com 1) and I had a question about testing it using hyperterminal (I have done this type of testing in the past with barcode scanners to make sure they work, but never with a scale). What configuration should I use: 9600, 8, none, 1, hardware?

and then, once i get the setting right, will the weight just appear in the HT window once it stabilizes, real time, or when?
