I have an ongoing problem that has been haunting me for the past week, and hope you can give me some ideas.
The specifics are as follows:
HP Pavilion zt1231s, 256 RAM (original install), running XP-Home, SP2, fully updated. I am running AVG 7.0, Windows Firewall, Adaware, SpyBot, SpywareBlaster, and am on a WiFi home network behind a Belkin ASDL modem/router.
The computer has been scanned with AVG, Adaware, SpyBot, CW Shredder and HiJack This--all have come back clean without any abnormal entries. TuneUp Utilities has not detected any abnormalities either.
I am experiencing random shutdowns (no BSOD or error messages) of the system, similar to what happens if I would do a hard shutdown manually (holding down the power switch for 4 or 5 seconds).
Subsequent to the random shutdown, I am unable to restart the computer via the laptop's power switch.
In order to restart, I must unplug the power cord from the rear of the computer, plug it back in, and then use the power switch, which then magically seems to function.
I have checked the error logs--nothing out of the ordinary. Additionally, the issue cannot be heat related, as the random shutdown sometimes happens on a first start after the laptop has been shut down overnight.
When running, the computer shows NO other symptoms such as slow performance, etc. The only oddity exhibited is the battery charging lights do not appear to be working correctly. At this time, my battery light is showing "fully charged" but the battery is completely discharged.
Thanks in advance for any help you can send my way.
