Question

Ghost 7.5 for ABit Motherboard / NForce4 Chipset

Asked by: XelaQlito

Hi all:

I've recently purchased a bunch of computers with ABit AN-8 socket 939 motherboards with WonXP Pro. These MoBos use the NVidia NForce4 chipset that handles ethernet traffic. I need to use Symantec's Ghost (7.5) and I can't find the NDIS2 / Packet Drivers to set up the boot diskette. Can anyone help me out here? The Nvidia and Symantec web sites have been ineffective so far to get this info.

Thanks
Xela

As you can see, the files the Ghost diskette requires: Netbind.com , Protman.dos , Protman.exe , Dis_pkt.dos , Protocol.ini and NICDriver.dos are nowhere to be found. They aren't in the computer either, I looked.

Is there a reason you have to do it this way?  Are the Ghost images saved on the network?  From what I read, Ghost 7.5 seems limited in support of modern chipsets, even Intel 865/875 chipsets (let alone nForce4).  Perhaps the later version of Ghost has built-in support, or you can get a cheap NIC that is supported.

It seems I'll have to look into Ghost >7.5 or some alternate product. I'd hate to go disk by disk on this.

Update: I talked to the Abit reps and it seems they have a driver for me. I haven't received it yet, but as soon as I do I'll test it and tell you all about it. In the meantime I'm solving the problem via Brute Force: I installed Realtek based PCI network cards on all machines and have been working with them. NOT an ellegant solution: two network connections in one machine (actually three if you include 1394).

Ok, I'm waiting for the results.
