The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. DVD ROM, DVD Burner, and CDROM No Longer Work After Using System Restore

Hi Everyone:

       In an attempt to fix a corrupted registry file, I performed a system restore on the pc.  Unfortunately, regular registry backups have not been done, so, I had to choose one dated back in June (prior to the SP2 current update) which was done by Erundt.  When the restore of the registry was done, I found none of the IDE CDROM devices to work.  The BIOS detects them at bootup, but, within Device Manager, there is a yellow exclamation point by each of the three devices.  My guess is the restore file used is one which has the registry entries for cdrom, dvdrom, and dvdburner when the pc had Windows XP Pro without the SP2 update.  The SP2 update, I believe, was done "after" this restore file for the registry was created.  

        In any case, it is in a real mess right now.  Since the OS system itself still indicates SP2, perhaps there is a way of retrieving the necessary driver files to fix the currently corrupted IDE drivers for the cdrom, dvdrom, and dvd burner.  

        Any thoughts, tips, or suggestions for correcting this problem will be appreciated.
