The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Adding a PCI Videocard to a system with a AGP card already (for a third monitor) Code 10 device cannot start - ATI Radeon

Thanks for looking.

My system setup:

CPU: P4 2.8 HT
RAM: 1GB RAM
HDD: 5 Maxtor HDDs
OPTICAL: Sony DRU-710a
SLOT 1: ATI Radeon 9800 PRO AGP
SLOT 2: Promise Ultra133 TX2 IDE Controller
SLOT 3: Soundblaster PCI
SLOT 4: STB TV Tuner
SLOT 5: ATI mach64 GX PCI

Currently I am running a dual 20" LCD display, both off the Radeon 9800 card (one VGA, the other DVI). I want to add a third display, so I installed the mach64 card in the PCI slot. I know it's possible to run several videocards in one pc.

It seems like the drivers installed fine, Device Manager sees the device and correctly names it, but I get:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

It's location is:
PCI Slot 4 (PCI bus 2, device 3, function 0)

I would rather not move the location as each time you move the cards the system will re-install the drivers and I don't want to mess with something that works fine. I cannot put it on PCI 1 because the IDE card just barely makes it with all 5 HDDs attached. The highest I can move it to is slot 3, AKA PCI 2.

Thanks in advance,
