Browse All TopicsI have a Gateway computer with 2 IDE slots on the motherboard. Currently I have 2 DVD drives using using 1 slot and set up as master and slave. I also have (1) 80 GB bootable hard drive and (1) 120 bootable hard drive set up as master and slave and using the other IDE slot on the motherboard.
I recently purchased a bigger Seagate 200 GB hard drive that I want to install. Since I do not want to remove my 80GB hard drive since it is the bootable drive with Windows XP, I want to install s 3 hard drive instead. For this I purchase a Promise Technology Ultra 100 x2 Ultra ATA/100 PCI COntroller.
This is what I did.
1) I replaced the old hard drive (180 GB) with the old hard drive (120 GB) and left it as the slave. Windows recognized the new drive and I ran the utilities and formated the new drive.
2) I installed the new Ultra100 TX2 controller card
3) I installed the old 180 GB hard drive and connected it to the controller card. I set the jumppers as the master or single setting.
4) I started windows.
In Explorer I can see 2 drives C: (80 GB) and D: (200 GB) and cannot see the third drive (180 GB). In Device Manager under Disc Drives I see 2 drives C: and D: and under SCSI and Raid Controllers it shows he Promise TEchnollogy Ultra IDE COntroller.
1) What do I need to do to get Windows to recognize the third drive?
2) Waht is the best configuration for my setup? (i.e. should he DVD be connected to the PCI card instead of the motherboard since they are slower that hard drives?)
I will appreciate detailed step by step information of what I need to do.
