hp DVD Writer 400c= drive (E:) DVD/CD-R

My burner, listed above as hp DVD Writer 400c= drive (E:) DVD/CD-R, has stopped burning to DVD+R blanks. This is a first. When I put a DVD+R blank in the drive, usually Nero 6's Smart Start detects it, and a popup appears asking me what I want to do, burn or watch it. If I go to My Computer/Folders, the drive, i.e. DVD/CD-R (E:) hasn't detected either. I can open and close the drive, reboot, and it won't detect the DVD+R blank, and I've tried various blanks. Nero and this driver have been burning to DVD+R blanks for months. I've rolled back the Windows XP System REstoratio, no go. I've uninstalled the hardware, rebooted so it reinstall, no go. This burner has always burned to DVD+R blanks. Can anyone tell me what's happening and why it won't accept a DVD+R blank?
