Question

HP ILO password change/reset

Asked by: cfricke1

Hello,
I am running an HP DL380 G3 server and I don't have the HP ILO (integrated lights out) password.
Can someone tell me how to change this password, reset it to default or clear it out?  The ILO password tag was taken off the server and lost by my predecessor.

I have tried CPQLOCFG.EXE and HPONCFG.EXE and neither of these utilities seem to have a password change feature.

I have upgraded the ILO firmware to newest level (ver 1.82, 8/22/2005)

File: HPONCFG.EXE   Date: 10/28/2005
File: CPQLOCFG.EXE   Date: 10/6/2005

Thanks,
Stuart Helm, MCSE

FYI,
Syntax for the HPONCFG and CPQLOCFG commands:

J:\SHARES\HOME\StuartH\TEMP>cpqlocfg
CPQLOCFG v. 2.25 dated 10/06/2005
Usage
cpqlocfg -s [servername|ipaddress]|[:port] -l [logfilename] -f [input filename]
-v -c -u [username] -p [password]
Where:
-s servername is the DNS name of target server.
-s ipaddress is the IP Address of the target server.
If a port is not specified, the port will default to :443.
DO NOT USE this switch if launching from Insight Manager 7.

-l logfilename is the name of the file to log all output to.
A default file with the server name/ipaddress is created
if this option is not specified.
DO NOT USE this switch if launching from Insight Manager 7.

-f input filename is the filename containing the RIB Commands

-v Enables verbose message logging. By default, only errors and
responses from GET commands will be logged without the -v switch.

-c Will cause CPQLOCFG to check for correct xml formatting,
but not open a connection to the management processor.

        -u username
-p password  Command line user name and password override those
which are in the script file.
