The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

SCSI drive configuration and boot problems

I posted a question about this same computer previously.  I thought this problem was solved but not so.  We have a dual Pentium 4  HP  4000 with a Seagate SCSI drive.  The computer began to lock up and sometimes allow reboot and sometimes not because it would recognize the hard drive sometimes and sometimes not.  From the answers to last question I posted I thought we had it fixed.  However, shortly after, problem began again.  The machine is running Windows 2000 server.  When it began to lock up again, it would give message that event log was full.  I made some changes to the way it was logging which seemed to prevent the logging error message but the machine would still lock up after a period of operation of less than one day.  I have obtained another SCSI drive and am now trying to install and boot from that drive to see if my problem is in the old drive or with some other part of the machine.  I have removed the other drive and connected the new drive.  I attempted to load Windows 2000 Server on the new drive by booting from CD.  During setup process, I pushed F6 and loaded the SCSI driver and Windows proceeded to load until point of first reboot during installation process.  After the reboot, the computer could not seem to find the new drive to continue installation and failed to boot.  This computer has built in SCSI controller, but I have very little SCSI experience and am not sure how to configure all aspects.  I currently have the drive set to ID 1 by use of jumpers.  I did not know if it needed to be set to 0.  Any help on any of the above issues would be appreciated.  I need to get this machine back up and running or at least determine why it will not run.  Also, I would like to know how to disable the lengthy RAM test at boot up.  I have enabled the Quick Boot option in the Phoenix BIOS but test still runs.  Start Free Trial
