Currently we have a Server with Win2k Server which is configured as a DHCP and Domain Controller but also hosts the database file for the users. It currently has 2 36GB RAID 0 (Mirror) 10K SCSI Hard drives partitioned C:\ for OS and Applications and D:\ for data. They are hooked up to single channel Adapted 2120S card. I'm running out of space on C:\ so want to reconfigure the server. I want to add a separate 36GB Hard disk for just the OS and applications. Here are my questions:
1. Should I have seperate disk for OS/Apps? Are there any drawbacks.
2. Should OS disk be on RAID or should I just have a separate uninstalled identical Disk in case of failure? This one I'm thinking to do incase OS configuration gets screwed up. in which case I can just put in the other disk while I copy the good disk image onto the other.
3. Should the Data disk or the OS disk be 15K RPM. I'm considering buying 15K disks
4. If I have 2 RAIDS (Data and OS), shoud they be connected to the same SCSI Cable. What about just 1 RAID (DATA) and one other disk (OS).
5. Should I create a RAID 10 instead ?
Any other thoughts and considerations are greatly appriciated.
