The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. RAID HD failure troubleshooting

I currently have a Shuttle barebones system with ICH 6R RAID.  I had a difficult time installing Win2000 Pro after configuring the RAID1 array.  The OS would hang on boot, locking the system and would not load upon restart.  Finally after multiple attempts, the OS seemed to install properly, however, upon shutdown, the system did not shut down/screen locked.  I powered the system down manually, but upon restart I get a message stating one of the drives has failed and should be replaced.  This is a new system.  I tested the HDs with Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test (two Hitachi 250 GB SATA 150 drives) and both drives "passed".  I don't think the HD is the issue, but how might I troubleshoot?  Does Win2000Pro not do well with a RAID?  This is the first system I've ever set up with a RAID so excuse my ignorance with a lot of the technical details.  I'd appreciate any insight and recommendations to test.  Thank you!
