dell optiplex stops working instantly while still powered up

I have a dell 2.8 desktop optiplex that has worked fine for 3/4 years

just recently, it has started to instantly switch of while working on it.  However, the power is still on and if i lift up the cover, the light on the motherboard is still on.

Only the monitor is displaying the no signal message and I cannot VNC to the machine signalling it is as if it is shut down while still powered up.

How do I troubleshoot this?

The machine has Norton Virus definitions up to date and runs windows defender so I dont think it is a virus as it is well protected.
