You can easily pop the cover and check it visibly.
Just remember, you'll need the VRM/ppm (power module) to go with it..

1- Ok if I need to order a second CPU does it have to be the same as the existing one??
2- what information I need to provide to the vendor when ordering a CPU???

I retrieved the followin info regarding the existing CPU but I don't know if it's all that is needed.

Proliant DL380 G2
System Manufacturer :Compaq
Processor  Description: Intel(R) Pentium(R) III CPU family      1400MHz
X86 Family 6 Model 11 Stepping 1 genuineIntel ~1390 Mhz
Bios version 12/11/01

There's some slight variations that will allow you to mix them, but your best bet is to grab the spares # off the existing processor, if you can get to it.

The above appears to be what you need - check Start->Run->msinfo32
and compare the installed one.

<<<grab the spares # off the existing processor>>>

where can I look this? is it located on the existing processor itself? ,on the back of it? ,on the side?

Part no 201099-B21, should come with VRM (from http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/10902_div/10902_div.html)
Best to get one from a broker, better to get two that have both been pulled from the same machine. If BIOS doesn't see 2nd processor then swap them around since the stepping is important.

If I understand .

I need to open the server and take a look at the existin g CPU and write down the reference of the CPU if there is any then order the same CPU.

Correct?

by: jskfanPosted on 2007-01-30 at 10:38:46ID: 18429936

any update??

The spares part number is on a label on the CPU/heatsink but the sales part number that most people use when buying and selling them is the one I already gave you. I'd be tempted to get a pair of them from a broker if they're only about $100 since then they would probably have the same stepping. I don't think the spares part no gets you the power regulator included.

1- Ok if I need to order a second CPU does it have to be the same as the existing one?? - Absolutely !
2- what information I need to provide to the vendor when ordering a CPU??? - The Model Number, such as 001-xxxxx :)

If you grab the Serial Number of your Server and you go to
" http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/WarrantyLookup.jsp?country=PT ", then it should return you all your server's config

Best Regards

 D145KC35K006

I opened the cover, and found a heatsink, so I didn't remove the heat sink according to the Caution(warning) on the plasctic protector. There is another spot for the second processor, it has kind of a lever on the side. All I can see is the PGA370 on the sockect.

Do you think If I order a processor with the following info will be sufficient:

Proliant DL380 G2
System Manufacturer :Compaq
Processor  Description: Intel(R) Pentium(R) III CPU family      1400MHz
X86 Family 6 Model 11 Stepping 1 genuineIntel ~1390 Mhz
Bios version 12/11/01
Socket PGA370
