The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Computer Freezes and have to reboot

Recently my computer has been locking up completely. This happens at random, and usually when I am multitasking. The mouse pointer is still there, but will not move. If I press any keys on keyboard nothing happens (including numlock). CTRL-ALT-DEL does NOT bring up task manger. At that point i lose any unsaved work and am forced to reboot. Its becoming very frustrating.

I had recently upgraded the memory and first thought that was the reason, but after putting my old memory back in and testing it is still locking up. I did a memory test with both and it did not seem right. With the DOS Boot CD for Memory test it would go through the various tests and halt after about 10-15 minutes on one part. It is not clear if it is the memory itself that made it halt or that the system itself is doing the same halt that happens in Windows.

I have reset CMOIS to default settings hoping it would fix it and it still has the problem. I have also unplugged fans attached to board.

System is verified free from AV and spyware, there are only a couple apps running at startup, and has recent MS updates.

I do not know where to proceed further with this. Is there a software utility that will do complete hardware tests, for motherboard, sound, power supply ect?

Also, I reviewed event viewer and their are no errors that show up after the freezes (event logging is on).
