The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. USB No Longer Working

Hi,

My computer's USB Ports no longer seem to be working. The problem occurred after synchronizing a new phone using Windows Mobile 6 ActiveSync. My computer froze during the sync and wouldn't even respond to CTRL-ALT-DELETE. I rebooted using the computer's power button, and from that time on, the USB ports haven't worked.

The computer has a USB keyboard and a USB mouse, so right now the only way I can work with it is either with an old PS2 keyboard or by remote desktop.

I have tried to fix this by updating the BIOS with the latest version, and by deleting the USB drivers from the Device Manager, rebooting and having Windows reinstall the drivers. Neither of these solved the problem.

Whenever the computer is rebooted I get a BIOS Post Error saying "Keyboard Failure" (unless I have the PS2 keyboard connected).

The computer is a Dell Dimension running Windows XP Pro SP3. It is fully patched.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
