The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Need help with 1st-time custom build: (Core i7, Gigabyte MOBO; Corsair RAM & POS

With thanks in advance to CORAL47 and Callandor, I'm working w/ the following config:

"CPU: i7 920
"MoBo: GigaByte GA-EX58-UD3R
"RAM: 6GB Corsair XMS3
"PoS: Corsair TX650W
Other compnents harvested from preexisting system
PoS looks DOA?

Here's what's happened so far:
1) Donned anti-static wrist strap
2) Laid out "frame" 3 strips of wood to create "frame" for working on MoBo
2) Unboxed Mobo and placed on frame, w/ padding from box between MoBo and wood
3) Unboxed CPU
4) Removed protective CPU cover from MoBo
5) Removed protective cover from CPU
6) Installed CPU per instructions
7) Installed CPU cooler and connected power to MoBo per/instructions (grease was preapplied to bottom of cooler)
8) Installed memory per instructions
9) Installed CONNECT 3D RADEON X300 video card (harvested from old PC)

Per CORAL47's suggestion, I wanted to make sure everything so far was working, so I

10) Attached keyboard using PS/2 connector
11) Attached 24-pin connector from PoS
12) Plugged PoS into wall
13) Flipped PoS switch

and ..... Nothing happened.

Tried disconnecting PoS from MoBo and powering on standalone - nothing

Didn't want to monkey around anymore w/o checking w/ you guys.

Does the PoS sound conclusively DOA, or does it have some kind of failsafe that keeps it from coming on if not connected properly?

If failsafe = yes, then here are the things about which I was uncertain regarding hookup:

The Gigabyte docs say "When using a power supply providing a 2x4 12V anda a 2x12 power connector remove the protective covers from the 12V connector and the main paower connectors on the motherboard. Do not insert the power supply cables into the pins under the protective covers when using a power supply providing a 2x2 12V and a 2x10 power connector"

1) Do the 24 pin main connector AND the 12V connector both need to be connected?
2) The TX650W's cables and the the Gigabyte's connectors both seem to have options  - which way do I go?
3) I don't see the "protective covers" the above paragraph cautions me about.

Anxious to get this thing working - please let me know what's next!
