Tried those. I just installed normally, so if there is another way to get them to work....

Browse All TopicsI have an HP dv9000 with Vista (32) installed and an nVidia GeForce Go 7600 video card. All was functioning just fine, then the screen had some funny lines and went black. The laptop would then only boot in safe mode. When started normally it would start to load, then go to a black screen and stayed there. Eventually I'd get a BSOD with the stop error of nvlddmkm.sys. I've searched the internet and found there is an issue with the driver, but not a solution, that I've found. Any experts have a fix for this? I even contaced HP, they gave me updated drivers, but still doesn't work. I have the Microsoft Standard VGA driver loaded to get the laptop to work, but that is not a good long term solution.

Did the BIOS update, then uninstall/reinstall..... no event errors, just black screen forever, BSOD nvlddmkm.sys error.
I have found TONS of complaints on this online, www.hplies.com, www.nvlddmkm.com... All with no resolution. After a lengthy chat with an HP online tech, still no resolution. And since it's outside of warranty.... It's my cost to replace motherboard with a new one without faulty graphics card.
Anyone have a fix for this that doesn't involve me shelling out $$$ to replace the MB?
try this uninstall then then use this tool to get the rest of the files before rebooting.

you also might be ableuto get hp to fix it.

No go, used the tool, removed the files, installed the latest drivers from nVidia, still same issue. On restart, the laptop starts to load, then after the Microsoft green bar goes across for a bit, it goes to black and remains there. Sometimes if left for a long time it will come up with the nvlddmkm.sys BSOD, sometimes not.
I'm not sure how this compares to the tool "ComputerTechie" suggested, but I've used Driver Sweeper before to nuke the remains of an Nvidia driver:

You may need to run it in Safe Mode to do it properly.
From what you've said though, it doesn't sound hopeful. You could perhaps try using a Linux Live CD as a way of testing the hardware with the Windows OS removed from the equation. eg try mucking around in Ubuntu or Knoppix which can both be run directly off CD/DVD.
I've got the card disabled now, so it's stopped trying to install the nVidia drivers. With all my attempts, it no longer loads the Standard VGA driver though.... Any thoughts on how I might get that loaded again? OR.... is there an alternate driver I can load that would help?
I'll try the Driver Sweeper as well, but I'm not sure what I'm trying to gain here. Are we trying to get rid of a "faulty" driver file? I am able to use the laptop, just not with very good graphics.... I still don't get why it stopped working all of a sudden? Is this a possible hardware failure?
I'm intrigued by the Ubuntu or Knoppix CD idea, is that going to tell me with the hardware is bad?
My thought is using Driver Sweeper to remove all traces of current Nvidia driver remnants to start afresh - which also hopefully includes the ability to get an MS driver too!
With something like Ubuntu or Knoppix I'm hoping you'll be able to get a better test of whether the hardware itself is OK - I'm not sure if it will give absolute certainty that all is well if it looks OK, but at least if it fails in there too, that would surely point at the hardware.
Ok, so I tried Ubuntu, pretty cool... I've never used that before. I went under System>Administration>hardwa
I was running Ubuntu as "Try without changes to your system" so I don't know if that was wrong? Thoughts??
I know that the points have been assigned but this is definitely a hardware problem with the Nvidia 7600 card that is an integral part of the MB. HP and Nvidia reached a monetary damages agreement because the Nvidia had so many meltdowns. It has been attributed to the heat in the portable causing the solder on the Nvidia chips to break.
Some guys have even put the MB in the oven and baked it so the solder would reflow... others have used a heat gun. Many posts on the HP support forum on the DV9000 and GeForce 7600 Nvidia card problems. You are not alone my son.
I am experiencing the same problems and HP (even though they got a settlement from Nvidea) is doing nothing but giving lip service through tech support about how much the foreign techies empathize with the customers with the problem.
Last HP product that will ever be in my place of business or home.
