Question

Monitor loosing red color

Asked by: Tiras25

Hello-
I have a client where monitor doesn't have a red color.  Only blue and green so the picture come as deadly bluish.  Sometimes red comes back but most of the time not.  Obviously my first was a monitor failed so I ordered a replacement from Dell.  Dell sent a new monitor, they pluged it in but same thing..

Monitor plugged into the HP laptop tx1000 via that external docking station, I attached the picture.  I tried wiggling wires, moving the HP port, and turning the monitor on and off.  Nothing helps.
Is it possible the dock it going bad or would it be the laptop itself?

What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance.

Whats the monitor model? LCD or CRT? Have you tested this monitor with other computer/laptop?
Without docking station (direct connection to laptop) does it work as expected?
Depends on the above answers, we can isolate the issue.

Monitor is LCD from Dell.  Let me test it next week and let you know.

I also noticed when start adjusting *sound* the video changes to normal.   It doesn't make sense to me so maybe a coincidence.  Happened twice already.

Thanks!

Try Using a Diffrent Cable. I have a similar problem, i just wiggle the cable  and the color come back fine.

Sorry, I didnt see you tired that. Try connecting the monitor straight to the laptop with out using a docking station.

It is also good to check out the monitor settings right on the monitor... depending on the model, most lcd's have some menu option buttons right on the screen:

Try to Push the menu button on screen display (OSD), which should provide a  menu for

- adjusting the display position and size
- color settings (temperature, hue, saturation)
- an "AUTO ADJUST" setting that Dell says should find the best settings for most users
- a "FACTORY RESET" that allows you to reset the color settings, the position settings or both, to default values
You could try to do a manual adjust and see if it improves the situation...

Hey guys,

Looks like a laptop issue.  It doesn't push a red color while connecting directoly to the laptop.  I tried two different monitors.

Has anyone seen this problem before?   Is it possible to fix that?

The laptop itself shows color OK.  It's just when pushing the video out via normal VGA it comes with red color missing.

Thank you.

Sounds like a graphics card issue. on laptops the graphics card is built into the motherboard. so if you dont want to buy a new card, you can just get a external card --> http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/laptops/asus-xg-station-is-worlds-first-external-laptop-graphics-card-226648.php

hmm... not sure its compatible for HP Pavilion TX1115nr.

Do you know how much they cost also?

by: PatelBhavinPosted on 2009-09-30 at 10:39:51ID: 25461295

Let me look into it.  When i used to work at Best Buy last month, I know they has External Cards for the laptop. Do you have a PCMCIA or Express slot?

by: Tiras25Posted on 2009-09-30 at 10:47:43ID: 25461383

Hmm, I don't a PCMCIA here.  I do see though two smaller slots SD-MS/Pro-MMC-XD

Do you know what they are?

Or is there an external graphic card where I can just plug into the USB port?

Looks like the motherboard is way too expensive.  Its not worth it.

The USB graphic card has a DVI connector only.  I wonder if there any that have VGA's also.

I attached the cards my vendor has, these are the cards I know of.

by: Tiras25Posted on 2009-09-30 at 11:07:18ID: 25461587

OK got it.  Looks like Newegg has a good price $65.99  That should do it.

Who's your vendor though?

by: Tiras25Posted on 2009-09-30 at 11:10:45ID: 25461619

Do you know if they come with a USB cable to plug it in and works? Any drivers need to be installed?  I never used these things.

by: PatelBhavinPosted on 2009-09-30 at 11:11:26ID: 25461624

D and H, I am thinking of Changing. I think my vendor is TWO OVERPRICED! and they have me on Wire Transfer Terms as well so I loose money instead of making money when i sell an item.

by: PatelBhavinPosted on 2009-09-30 at 11:12:12ID: 25461634

99.8% there are drivers. they should have the USB Cable.

One minute, Have you tried with another monitor in this laptop? or a projector? Sorry to mention this in this time as you have already gone far with purchasing a new one! After this final test, you may proceed with buying external card. Get another monitor, probably a new one.

Thanks
