As far as scanning The higher the scans per second the better.
You just need to make sure the barcode reader is compatible with the type of barcode you will be reading.
Also, if for a PC. Depending on the age of the computer they can come in PS2 with Keyboard or USB.
Obviously if its an older computer w/ no USB Ports you will require the PS2 reader.
If newer PC with USB and High Speed USB ports you my find one that operates via USB cable.
Some scanners these days usually come with both cables now.
