Use 56k Voice Modem to make phone calls
Hi,
I would like to know how to set up a 56k voice/speakerphone modem in a way that will allow me to use my current landliine, some software, and a headset through my computer to make phone calls.
I currently have a Creative Modem Blaster model no. DI5631, hooked up to a landline, and a headset plugged into the audio ports of the modem. And have attempted to use a program called Phone Dialer Pro to make calls, but no joy. When I dial my number, or call another, the program will make and receive the calls, but I am unable to hear or be heard when I speak when the line is picked up. Could someone please help me get this working?

To test the mic and headset while connected to the modem, use hyperterminal to dial and see if you can hear and be heard as well.

I am using Supervoice Pro now, and I was able to hear the dialtone and voice with speakers plugged into modem (HORRIBLE SOUND QUALITY) I need a JDM1 port on my mobo to connect the TAD connector from modem to onboard sound card, and I don't have one. Also, when connected to the other party, they were unable to hear me when I used the microphone when it was attached to the sound card. I also had another headset connected to the soundcard which did not function at all when making/receiving a call.
You may just need to check the impendance requirements for the modems Mic and speaker jack and make sure the ones you are using are the correct ones.

Do you think there may be a way to allow the audio from the modem to be used through the soundcard without the TAD connector? My friend stated that he did this exact same thing without any extra wires back in the day. And what I've heard of the modems sound output is complete crap.

Alright, soundcard bought, should arrive tomorrow. Will post back on success/failure of new setup afterwards.

I'm 99% sure the soundcard solution will work. I've just gotten the audio jacks from modem working excellently. Anyone else wanting to setup their computer as a phone similar to this may want to download this not-so-well-known executable called unimodv.exe and place it in their Windows directory. ( http://download.microsoft.com/download/win95upg/unimodem/1/W95/EN-US/unimodv.exe )
And your mic as well, there are different mics available and some are not interchangable with others.
Also that program you are using, it may require you to connect your modem to the soundcard and use the mic and speaker ports on the soundcard instead of the modem.
