You may want to go and check for hidden devices in the Device Manager and make sure that you don't have any ghost devices that aren't working.
At the command prompt type the following 2 lines:
1) SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEV
2) START DEVMGMT.MSC
(Minus the numbers of course) Then check to see if there are any hidden NIC or LAN devices.
If that doesn't work I'd recommend posting a HiJackThis log
