Gateway Laptop  wired Ethernet connection isnt working

Gatway Laptop T-1625

Wireless connection works fine.  The wired connection doesnt work at all, tried a few different know good patch cords/ports on the switch that test fine with other computers.  No lights flicker on the laptop.  
The only device I have listed in device manager under network adaptors is realtek RTL8187B wireless network adaptor.  There are NO unknown devices listed.  

I checked the bios and see no mention of the wired Ethernet port.  I checked for bios updates and nothing is listed on gateways website.  

OS is Vista Home Premium. I need the network connection to ghost the drive so I can reformat with XP.  

Think its a hardware issue or am I missing something stupid with this?
