The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

HP DL180 Network Speed

Good day Experts

I am experiencing a strange problem which I am really hoping that you guys can assist me with.

Background:
We purchased a HP DL180 G5 server for the main to be used as a backup server, using Symantec 12.5.  The server has a HP NC105i PCIe Gigabit Server adapter in it, which is able to run at 1000mpbs speeds.
The core switch of our network is a Netgear GSM712 switch which is able to run at 1000mbps.

Issue:
Upon connecting the DL180 server to the Netgear GSM712 switch I am only able to get a 100mbps speeds and not 1000mbps as expected. I have done all sorts, from changing out cables, to swapping out ports of others servers which are running at 1000mbps speeds and without any luck.

Observation:
I have compared some of our other servers which are running at 1000mbps speeds and the only point that I think is worth mentioning is that our new DL180 is running on Auto, under the Nic's drivers properties. (Please see attachment, DL180 Speed and Duplex). Where as our other server which is running at 1000mbps is set to 1000mbps under the Nics drivers properties (please refer to attachment DL320 Speed and Duplex).

I have tried to change the DL180's Speed and Duplex to 1000mbps as per our other server, but every time I do that, it just comes up saying that there is no network cable connected.

Question:
My question is simple, how do I get my HP DL180 server run at 1000mbps on a Netgear GSM712 switch which already has other devices connected to running at that speed.

If you guys would require any further information on this, please do not hesitate to ask.
Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter. It is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,
mustekkzn
