The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Cannot port forward smtp to mail server behind Cisco ASA 5505

Tags: asa, port, cisco, 5505, forwarding
I am trying to route smtp traffic to a specific address on my inside network behind a Cisco ASA 5505 and for some reason am unable to get it to work. It was working before I installed the ASA 5505 so I know it is not a mail server issue. I also want to get webmail and ftp working as well that is why there are entries for https, www, and ftp in my configuration.

I have been playing around with this for a while and have not been able to successfully connect from the outside. I'm not sure if the disconnect is in my access-group access-list or static assignment.

your access list is wrong

access-list outside_in extended permit tcp any host 192.168.1.200 eq smtp

because of

static (inside,outside) 70.167.x.x 192.168.1.200 netmask 255.255.255.255

it should read

access-list outside_in extended permit tcp any host 70.167.x.x eq smtp

And also Im assuming that the ip in that satic statement is NOT the same IP allocated to Vlan2

Remember when writing access lists use the IP address that will be used by the host thats instigating the traffic (so in this case the translated public IP address)

Changing the other Access list entries will let ftp, www and http also flow correctly :)
