The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Copy Conifg of WatchGuard Firebox to Cisco ASA 5520?

Asked by parkridgelibrary in Networking Hardware Firewalls, Cisco PIX Firewall, Watchguard Firewall

Sorry if the title is a little misleading, I am 99.9% sure that the config cannot just be copied over.  I currently have a WatchGuard Firebox firewall that has begun to fail after about 4 years of faithful service.  I purchased a new Cisco ASA 5520 (being much more familiar with Cisco PIX firewalls than WatchGuard Fireboxes).  I know every time I go to view the config of the Firebox using the GUI installed on one of my PCs, it makes me save the current configuration to a file saved on the PC.

My concern is will I be able to get anything useful from the saved config file so I can configure the ASA with th correct information.  I have not tried opening one of the config files (most out of fear) in Notepad/Wordpad yet because I am worried I will just see strange symbols and random characters.

I don't expect there to be some magical tool that will take a Firebox config and convert it into a format that can be fed into the ASA and make it all just start working.  Unless of course there is, then please tell me where to find it!  :)

I just would rather not try to sit and dig through every screen and setup section of the Firebox looking for information and chance miss something along the way.  Any help or suggestions with this is greatly appreciated!  Max points because I need to get these swapped out Monday or Tuesday next week before the Firebox completely kicks the bucket.Start Free Trial
