I have a client that used to have a static IP address. This address was used for the VPN connection, and for RDP. The client bought a block of 5 public addresses. He wanted to assign some to a few system on the LAN. As of yeasterday his VPN "broke". I was called in and saw that the VPN is looking for the original static IP, but now the system is set to dynamic. A new address keeps coming up.
I thought I should change the address on the VPN device to what the static address used to be. The VPN device won't take it. It's as if that address means nothing to it anymore. I called Bellsouth and they said that because they gave us a block of addresses that the router had to be set to pull a dynamic IP insteald of retaining the static.
Does this sound right? Why would the addition of some public static IPs make the VPN go dynamic?
The VPN is a Netgear model. The use a Westell DSL modem.
Any ideas?
