We really can't provide much assistance without knowing the make and model of the pointer device. Also, does a regular external mouse click ok through the presentation?

Browse All TopicsA user at my company would like to use a remote laser pointer and powerpoint clicker. This device is has the following components:
1. A pen like laser pointer that a user can walk around freely with.
2. A USB connecter that is connected to a InfraRed device that accepts the transmitions from the pen like device.
I can connect the USB gadget via USB to a laptop and Device Manager can recognize the device; but, the forward and back buttons do not work on any PC that I have tried it on yet. I think it is because that IR port options is not enabled in the BIOS. The laser pointer part works fine just the clicker for the powerpoint presentations do not work well.
My question is where can I find this option to edit in the BIOS? This is an HP laptop. It has Windows XP Professional on it. Any other ideas that I can try to get this to work?
I will get the make and model of the wireless device soon. As I mentioned thise devices do show up in Device Manager. Device Manager does state that it is working properly.

Do you have access to another one? Since this is a product typically used for promotions, it's not likely to be a quality product and may have higher failure rates. There are no drivers to be installed, so I'd try another one or do a System Restore to a time before you connected the laser pointer and then try plugging it into a different USB port.
The IR port is in the device connected through your USB, not an IR port on your laptop so there's no need to mess with the BIOS.

does the laptop say the device is connected and ready to use?
it should be a driver problem, not a bios if ur connecting via usb
