Question

lost a driver

Asked by: nadt

I have a USRobotics/3Com 56kbps voice fax pro modem.  I had its installtion diskette.  My Win'95 system crashed once and I tried to reinstal the things but the USRobotics diskette had some bad sectors.  So setup untility won't work.  I had to be satisfied on the configuring win'95 only on the inf files which I found on the cd rom which came with the modem.  But everytime I boot my computer I have to turn off my modem otherwise win'95 would give prompt `New hardware found' and `should I install it as a standard modem?'  Thus disabling all the voice mail features.  So bottomline is that I badly madly need the setup utility not to mention with the virtual device driver files and inf files of `3COM 56k voice fax pro modem' and not simply of `3COM 56k voice fax modem' Thank you

am not sure what a "pro" modem is in the USR line, but nevertheless, if it is a WinModem or a standard hardware, this is the place to go for the drivers, setup files (winmodem stuff). go to the modem section of your control panel, go to the properties of the modem, diagnostics, more info, within the information that comes up should be the modem model number, ie 840001, 178713, 568701, use this to get the right drivers, or in the case of a Winmodem, the correct install file.

I went to the site you recommended rayt333 and found the inf files only to explore that they are worse than that I have on my cd.  I told you guys that it is not infs that i need i need *.vxd and setup files for this stuff.  I also downloaded a hell lot of setup file from the usr's site but in vein.  It just updated the software code of the modem and did nothing.  Try again!!

Try to visit this site http://www.winfiles.com
Select Modem Drivers and you can find and download the driver for USR

If it's working, but the only problem is that PNP is detecting it, just choose the option to not install a driver for the modem.

If Windows is automatically changing the driver to what it thinks is the "correct" driver, go ahead and let it.  Then, go into the modem control panel and add a second modem using the INF files you have.

Why don't you visit the www.drivers.com web site. Just register yourself andyou get all the drivers from that website.

Why not let windows get the drivers for you. It comes under general, but I still have 56k v90. Also go to the 3com site and they have an update modem wizzard.
