Question

Motorola SM56 PCI Speakerphone Modem

Asked by: kryptix

This is more asking for opinion than an answer.  Does anyone have a Motorola SM56 PCI Speakerphone Modem? And do you have any problems with it?

I have bought 5 of these modems and installed them in systems ranging from P200MMX to AMDK6II 450 and all seem to have the same problem.  I have downloaded and installed the latest firware for them... This fixes the voice answering problem, however... There seems to be a problem with the net, the connection seems to hang, although it says that it is still connected... Net Medic reports that the problem is with either the intranet or the servers..  I also have an external modem which I am using now, and don't have the same problems ever with it.

The Motorola SM56 PCI Speakerphone Modems work good sometimes, but other times they can hang within minutes.
This is extremely frustrating... I have contacted the manufacturers, but have not received a reply.

Anyone have the same problem?

Thanks Kryptix

I've been working with those modems at my job, and I've seen the exact same problem. Have you tried the latest drivers? I have only had problems with everything but PII, and PIII, most problems I've had is with the AMD's.

Try setting your connection to 57600...I have  a sm56 piece of (Edited by Computer101) modem also . this setting seems to work for me so far... It seems that if sm 56k connects at speeds at 48000kps or more , you get the boot..
It is fast but very unreliable..
