If you have any routers laying around, use the netopia as your modem and let a different router route.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsOk, I have another very strange problem. I recently replaced an older Netopia DSL modem/router with a new Netopia 3000 DSL modem/router. There are 2 desktop computers and a laptop. The 2 desktop computers work exactly as they did with the old modem, however the laptop does not.
Here is the problem: When I launch Internet Explorer, it takes between 2 - 3 minutes to bring up the home page. When changing pages, it takes between 1 - 2 minutes to bring up a new page. It does not make any difference if the laptop is cabled directly to the router or whether it is connected wirelessly. The laptop is clean of malware, spyware etc. The laptop works perfectly in 3 other locations without any delay in launching IE and changing web pages. I have tried a different ethernet cable. I have tried different ports on the router. I have tried turing off the internal firewall. None of these changes have made a difference. So I have to assume that it is something peculiar to the Netopia 3000 that doesn't affect the desktop computers, just the laptop.
Any sugestions on what I should be looking for????

TCP Optimizer

Maybe the laptop's MTU size is misconfigured for THIS router?
rank1sttech - thank you for the responses, it is a dynamic IP, as the laptop travels between home, the office and local wireless AP's. Changing to a different router is not an acceptable solution. Understanding why there is a problem and fixing it is the goal here. I could go to a separate DSL modem and separate router (at additional expense) but AT&T replaced the original Netopia at no charge. As stated in the original post, the laptop works without any problems at every other location tested, and the desktops do not experience any problems at all.
johnb67667 - I will try TCP Optimizer as soon as possible in the next few days. The customer is only in the office a couple days a week, so it is hard for me coordinate my time with his.
Again, it worked fine in the old Netopia (non wireless) modem/router until it died. When we replaced it with the Netopia 3000, the desktops didn't experience any change in browsing. It is only the laptop and only through this modem/router.
Thank you
Craig
After rereading your original post, I am to wonder if you disabled the wireless card when you tried ethernet. You will get an IP on your ethernet, however, if your wireless card has an IP also, traffic will most likely flow through the wireless. Thus giving you bogus ethernet results. We could then narrow it down to the wireless........Just a thought.
OK guys I have solved the problem. As best as I can figure out, it was a conflict with IPv6 and the modem/router. I uninstalled IPv6 and it works great agan, just like it used to. I don't understand enough about IPv6 and Teredo Tunneling, but it was installed on this laptop and the user didn't know anything about it. I suppose at some point in the future when the internet finally goes completely to IPv6, then I will have to address the issue again with this particular modem/router/firewall. But for now it is working and the customer is happy.
I will be closing this question and requesting a refund as I solved it myself.
Thanks for your suggestions.

Static or Dynamic IP on the laptop? And have you tried safemode WITH networking to see if you have conflicting software?
