HUAWEI E220 HSDPA USB Modem random disconect

I have a HUAWEI E220 HSDPA USB modem and I use the Mobile Partner application to monitor the connection. The problem I experience is that the usb port randomly resets and disconnects the modem.  There are no error messages its the same as if I unplugged the device and then reconnect it. Why will a USB post randomly reset a device connected on it? could it be a bug in the driver software? It worked fine for a long while now but it looks like the problem increases as time goes on.
