The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Voyager 105 modem error loading newdev.dll

Asked by wallaceandtiernan in Computer Modems, Windows XP Operating System

Tags: Microsoft XP, drivers, modem install error

trying to install BT Voyager 105 USB ADSL Modem on dell pc - xp sp3 computer that is fully up to date. getting two errors

Error loading newdev.dll"

and then

"Administrator privileges are required to install, uninstall or configure the DSL software".

have tried the following

1. a comprehensive google serach for the error terms and have identified other users with the problem but no solutions

2. downloaded newdev.dll and replaced the file on my computer

3. downloaded most up to date drivers from bt website and tried again

4. full search of bt website for any mention of this error

5. Right click the setup program and click "Run as Administrator" (bit of a long shot)

6. deleted the existing driver from device manager

7. looked for any mention of the exisiting bt software and unistalled it

8. abandoned any attempt to use the bt install program and just plugged modem in and tried to locate drivers manually

all attempts fail and get the same error

only 2 options not tried i can think of
1. complete reinstall of the operating system but this seems a bit excessive for a modem problem
2. buy a proper non usb modem

HELP!

Thanks

Jim
