Question

Flashing red/green power light and no Internet on netgear DG834G v4

Asked by: SWESupport

Well what an issue this is I have a netgear dg834g v4 modem/ router which has started to not want to connect to the Internet as in there are no dsl,wireless or phone connection lights coming up only LAN number and power light, the power light stays green for around 5 minutes and the starts flashing red and green with a sense of urgency, the only way to stop the flashing is to power cycle the modem.
Reset button on the back does not make any differance and acts like I never pressed it and the closest thing in the manual I can find is flashing red light which means power cycle has failed. Help is very much appreciated on this one!!!!!

Seems like the router has created a fault and the only thing I can think of is :

to try to re-flash the router and see if that helps , if it doesn't then you might have to send it back to the manufacturer ;

Recovery utility : http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/263

Download the firmware from : http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2322

Before doing the above, try a factory reset, if that doesn't helps then download the firmware and use the recovery utility to flash the router

So your steps would be : try a factory reset or download the recovery utility and the firmware file

If they are confident that they tried it according to the guidelines by netgear, then i think you should send it back

or

You can try once more very carefully just to be sure.

I tried it yesterday and the day before, get nothing. The program seems dodgy too, its like it has two windows over itself the last screen and the next screen mixed together. But no luck after i press upgrade it just sits on the upgrade screen.

Ended up taking the router back to the shop, they tested it, finding it faulty and replace it.

Glad it did sorted out for you ;

For your future buying :

I would suggest go with draytek routers for small to medium sized business, they are very robust and worth every penny.

Their draytek 2950 provides 254 concurrent vpn tunnels and you don't have to buy vpn licenses for that; apart from the other robust features, a superb object based content filtering, dual wan, gigabit ports and much more.

http://draytek.com.au/index.php

Just a suggestion (they are much better then Netgear in every department) I used to use Netgear and sonicwall and now i am happily suggesting,deploying and using drayteks.

Let me know if you have any draytek queries
