I have spent quite a fair amount of time to try to figure this out and to no avail.
I have a pretty good understanding of Networking and of the Internet but this one has still got me baffled. Several times I have wanted to throw the hands up in the air and give up but I am not going to give up until I have it working, it has to be do-able. So that's why I joined experts-exchange!
I have Qwest DSL, M1000 modem and a block of 8 static IP's (because I could not get it to work previously with a single Static IP) and didn't want to deal with having to update dyndns all of the time with the new IP address. Recently found out a router can do the DDNS it if I get things setup correctly.
Still banging around the idea of keeping the multiple static IP's and a Cisco 851W Enterprise router if I can't get the following to work.
I am trying to set the M1000 to transparent bridging with VIP and then setup a WRT54G router as the gateway. Have the WRT54 do DHCP to a limited area of address' for misc PC's on the network (wired & wireless). And also have a few things setup on the network with static IP's (192.168.0.###, not the ISP/DSL static IP's) such as the IP camera's, a network hard drive (which I would like to be able to access remotely), etc..
When trying this I set the WRT to the ISP/DSL IP address 63.228.73.### and then my network IP becomes 63.228.73.### and not the 192.168.0.### which I would like to keep it at.
Also what would the topology be for the M1000 and the WRT? -
DSL Modem -> WRT (w/wireless) internet or ethernet -> Switch -> Network
Forgot to mention... I need to access the camera's remotely ((easily) and that I acquired a domain and domain name from Godaddy.com for access to the camera's i.e.- ourdoggiecam.us
Probably didn't need to do that since their ip camera's huh, but would be nice to just put in a easy web address like that to access them.
Your help would be greatly appreciated!
Regards
