Yeah, I was looking at them too. Have you used any of them?

Browse All TopicsI need a 2nd ethernet NIC for my IBM/Lenovo T43 with XP Pro. I've heard bad things about USB NICs, but the convenience would be nice.
Can anyone recommend one that they have actual expeirence with - or a PCMCIA? - it appears that this laptop will only take a one slot card - so I'll have to go with a dongle, which is why I was thinking about USB.
Thanks!

I've used the second of the two quite a few times and never had any problems with it. However, I have also used this other one and liked it quite a bit more...

Essentially, it ran into fewer hiccups. Never had problems connecting to networks anywhere (had 1 or 2 instances with the CompUSA card where I got "limited or no connectivity" messages). Nothing too serious. I have generally no knocks on CompUSA brand stuff... works pretty much as well as the name brand.
i also use 2 NIC's on my laptop... 1 onboard and the other is pcmcia.
The card is a intel 10/100 with a dongle... it works great and is easy to deal with... the only thing im worried about is the dongle breaking off the card if someone were to accidentally yank the cord downward.
I havent used a USB one but i can imagine this would be even worse and puts alot of torsion on the usb port itself. personally i would buy pcmcia if i had the choice... but thats just my preference.
As far as functionality... either one will work fine if you use a major brand like intel or 3com.
only worries i have is losing/breaking something. (i drag my laptop everywhere with me)
just make sure your getting a good brand name.

There are lots of PCMCIA cards that do NOT require a dongle, but would just stick out some.

Those are some examples. I prefer those because you don't have to worry about knocking a cord loose by mistake.
