The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

APC Network Card Shutdown Settings

Tags: APC, UPS Network Management Card
I need some help setting up a management card on an APC networked battery. Basically my situation is that I use the PowerChute Network to shutdown the servers in the case that the servers go on battery. Basically if the server is on battery more then 15 minutes then shutdown. The problem occurs after a shutdown the servers turn on and then shutdown again. I know I have some settings wrong on the APC card that is in the battery itself.

Does someone know what these mean: Start of Shutdown, Duration of Shutdown, End of Shutdown or what settings they have for those on their APC network card.

Thanks for the help

I'm not familiar with the PowerChute software, but you might want to check the BIOS in your server(s) - make sure the power settings are not set to 'restart after power outage' or they may be set to auto-start when power is applied.

Just guessing, I would assume the End of Shutdown should be set to 'AC power restored' or the equivalent.  Duration of shutdown should be either a long time (30 min?) or, perhaps, auto - that should allow the 'End of Shutdown' setting to prevail.

You are restarting and not shutting down the servers, that is why they are coming back on line right away.

You need to install the agent on each computer and then configure the shutdown procedure in the APC management web console.

You want your BIOS on your servers set to restart after power outage so that once power comes back they will turn back on automatically.

I have a document at home that I created for setting up what you want and if you post back to remind me I will post it when I get home in about 4HRS.

warren: thanks, I have it set right in the bios. Reason  I am sure, is you have to manually turn on the server when it shutdown after the battery kills it. I think the server rebooting was an issue with powerchute and a runtime exceeded parameter i had set.

ebjers.  I think the server rebooting was an issue with powerchute and a runtime exceeded parameter i had set. That would be great if you could send me that document. mm (AT) codefive.com

Thank you both.
