Question

7206xvr crash

Asked by: Vardata

We are trying to troubleshoot why a particular 7206vxr is crashing. Here is a little background...We are loading the chassis with an NPE-g1 (1gb) and (5) PA-A3-T3' After configuring and loading we are getting what appears to be a software crash, so we tried a different IOS only to receive the same errors. We then shuffled the cards between slots to pinpoint the issue, and the only solution was when we kept slot 4 empty. We tested the loaded chassis before doing the configuration and had no issues. It was only after doing the config that we started crashing. This  is why I'm not sure if  we have a software or hardware problem. I'm thinking of just replacing the chassis but thought I would post here first. Any help is appreciated.
I have attached several bootup captures.

It's a bus error, you can troubleshoot bus crashes at - https://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/OutputInterpreter/home.pl

First thing I'd do though would be pull all the port adapters out and see if it still crashes.

We actually pulled tha PA from slot 4 and placed it into slot 6 and rebooted several times without error. We only seem to crash when the PA is in slot 4. When we initially tested  this  chassis we had it loaded with PA's in every slot except slot 6. It seems when the configuration was applied is when we started to have issues. Thanks for the link RSLE...it looks like the IOS we are using should have all the fixes we need. Seems to me that slot 4 might be bad. What do you think?

by: RSLEPosted on 2008-05-19 at 09:09:48ID: 21599011

It's certainly sounds like an issue with slot 4 if you move the card to another slot on the same router and it works (I presume config applied on it there?)

At some point prior was there a card in slot 4 that was removed hot with the interface not shutdown?  I can't reference anything on this, but I've encountered somewhat similar problems with this before.

by: VardataPosted on 2008-05-27 at 10:36:11ID: 31458914

Looked at test reports before deploying router and saw no issues. Assuming that tech did try and hot swap the PA with the interface up.  Thanks for your help RSLE
