Installing a residential patch panel

It looks like I will be making some changes in my home: switching rooms around, etc.
Because of this, I will need to rerun cabling for my network.
I am considering installing a small panel in my basement to control everything from there, but have little experience with everything that entails.

Thus, I'm looking for some expert guidance here on product recommendations and planning strategy.

I currently have a cable modem and a router located in the center of my home.
On the north side of my home, I have a wifi router serving as an extender or AP.
I also use Vonage VoIP service, which is managed by the main router.

Through this process, I am looking at possibly getting a second line added through Vonage, so that may have bearing on device placement.

If there is anything further I can provide to more aptly define my situation, please let me know.
