Network cable speed tester

I just bought a cable tester.
Good for testing cable with open or shortcut circuit.

Now i want another thing. If my cable is good. i want an affordable tester to test the speed of this cable.
does the cable work a 20mbs, 50, 70, 100, 500, 1gbs speed?
if the cable is not in good condition, can i plug a sensor in my switch and a tester (or notebook) at the other end of my cable to test its speed?

You forgot to define ''affordable'' - see http://articles.techrepublic.com.com/5100-10878_11-5031804.html for a list of specifications a tester should check cables for. What you have is the bare minimum, but checking adjacent crosstalk and sweeping to 100MHz are as important for gigabit, but I don't know of any testers for under $1000 that perform those tests. :-|

Once everything connected you should use j-perf or other soft to test your actual speed accross diffrent links PC-to-PC.
As well over other type of the connection.

This meter - http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=1215852 - can be purchased in kits with either residential or industrial settings in mind... the kits I had in mind are between $1200 and $2300 at CDW (you may be able to find them cheaper elsewhere - that link's just an example). I wouldn't buy just the meter by itself. The carrying cases and accessories in the kits are usually worth every penny, and almost-always cost far-more to add later.

Kinda like the saying ''nobody ever got fired for buying Cisco'', Fluke meters are industrial strength solutions. They also make meters for network testing (e.g. NetTools, and LinkRunner) that check adapters, switches AND cables, but those don't specifically certify/qualify cable installations.

But do take a look at other brands too - e.g. http://www.datacomtools.com/Splash/Cable-certifers-splash.htm - Ideal is a good brand. I haven't heard of JDSU before, but their specs look good. The Wirescope 350 on that page has been discontinued, and the cheapest I saw it anywhere in a quick search was $2800.
