Cisco ASA 5505 - ASDM is unable to read the configuration from the ASA.

I can log into the ASA 5505 using the WEB interface, however when I try to use the ASDM launcher I receive the following message: ASDM is unable to read the configuration from the ASA.  I am using Norton Internet Security 2009 on this client.  I disabled the firewall, tried to login using the ASDM launcher and received the same result.

It appears that this problem is related to Java 6 Update 10.  Downgrading to an earlier problem was not a solution either.  Since I can access the ASDM though the WEB interface.  I will wait for the next JAVA update and see if that corrects the problem.

I uninstalled Java 6 update 10, and then repaired Java 6 update 7.
Worked like a charm.

I had the same issue so i uninstalled java 6 update 10 as well.

One simple thing, make sure the user has appropriate access, i.e. I had a customer who had a user with a privilege level of 2 and was trying to use the ASDM and got this error after loading about 27% of the configuration.  I changed the  useres privilege level to 15 and ADSM worked fine after that.
