Configuring SNMP V3 with a cisco 2900 switch

i am trying to configure a cisco 2900 switch and castle rock SNMPc to use SNMP V3, but i dont seem to be able to ge the configuration right, this is the switches config

snmp-server engineID local 123450000000000000000000
snmp-server engineID remote 192.168.1.2 123400000000000000000000
snmp-server user user1 group1 remote 192.168.1.2 v3
snmp-server user user1 group1 v3
snmp-server group group1 v3 noauth

see the attached file for the config on the snmp server.

the error result that i get is

"V3 unknown engine ID erroe foe status variable request"

any idea whats wrong?

also what is the SNMP engineID and the Security name? i understand snmp V1 and 2V but V3 config catching me out.

switch ip is 192.168.1.1/24
sever ip is 192.168.1.2/24

In the field :

V3 No -auth security name

put in what you named your group -- in your case -- 'group1'

and guys whats with the pasting of links -- if we really wanted to read endless links -- we would use google -- not come to experts exchange!

also get rid of the lines from your config :

snmp-server engineID local 123450000000000000000000
snmp-server engineID remote 192.168.1.2 123400000000000000000000

i have changed the snmp config to this.
!
snmp-server user user1 group1 v3
snmp-server group group1 v3 noauth write view1 notify *tv.FFFFFFFF.FFFFFFFF
snmp-server view view1 system included
snmp-server host 192.168.1.2 trap version 3 noauth user1
!

and i tried changing the security name group1

but i still get the error " V3 Unknown engine ID"

the is however one thing i found odd,  in the above config i did not enter this part
"notify *tv.FFFFFFFF.FFFFFFFF"

the switch did that its self, is this normal?

any more help is apreciated, thanks.

thanks for your help quys, i tried the config in work today on a 2960 switch and it works fine, i dont know why my 2900 switch at home gives the error "incorrect engine ID" maybe it has a bug? but atloast i can start to deploy SNMP V3 now, thank!!!!!!
