LAN Canon iR2270 printer/scanner/copier can be installed but will not print

I'm at a bit of a loss on what is preventing my Canon iR2270 from printing.  Then LAN is under Server 2003 control.  I'm installing the printer as a local networked printer and the Canon can be pinged.  No issues adding the Canon, but it will not print a test page.  I've also tried it with a client computer running XP Pro.  Same issue - the client will add the Canon but will not print a test page.  I can't find the common issue.
