I'd highly recommend you also speak with the HVAC tech who is setting up your AC as well.

I have a server room thermostat placement question. Attached you will find a screen shot of a visio drawing of our new server room that will be built. Where would the best location be for the themostat to be placed in this room. The server room will have dedicated ac with hot and cold aisles. The spot cooler in this drawing will not be there and in the cold air aisle there will be one vent in front/above the servers and one hot air return behind/above the servers instead of the 6 in the image.
Thank you for any help you may beable to give.

In this case not much diffrent, where you are going to put termostat(any reasonable distance away from grills)- most important, have air circulation within the racks(add spacing, and additional fans for hot spots inside the rack).
If you want to be more protected- you can use SNMP monitoring- like www.solarwinds.com see exact tempature of CPU/ and so on of most of hardware you have(SNMP can send you alarms , if if tempeture exceed normal )- this way you will independent from HVAC monitoring and prevention, as well increasing redundancy(do not depend on "single point of failure").
For other automation purposes you can use - www.amx.com hardware - it does have a lot integrated simplicity for serial/touch panel control option.
I'll tell you what, Visit this web site and check out the NOAAS Oscar Sette. I have all kinds of Serial sensors that provide WIND direction, Wind speed, Air temp, Barometric readings. GPS location, Water temp. Ect...... This data is all serial sensor data that is collected and sent out to a shore station via email.

I know about temp sensors and monitors, what I was referring to is the wall control thermostat that controls the main ac unit. Would this need to be mounted in the rack or would it stay on the wall where they want to put it and if so is that location a good location?
Thank you everyone for participation.
And as an additional note, don't be surprised if you see a noticeable jump in utility cost with the added AC. Considering how much cooler things are going to be going, and the added fact that server room AC is normally running even outside of business hours (normally regular office space has its building AC shut-off/turn down outside business hours because people are gone, and servers are typically running/needing the AC 24/7), it is going to add up.

You'll want to have the thermostat somewhat away from the aisles as you do not want the direct air temperature to affect what you really want in the ambient temperature. You probably will end up stacking shelves/objects in the upper-right open space of the room, so don't put it there or you could end up obstructing the thermostat.
