The Solution Rating System
|
|
| With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating. - The Grade of the Solution
- The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
- The Number of Author and Expert Comments
- The Number of Experts Contributing
- The Feedback of the Community
Your Input Matters Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site. If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support. Thank you! |

Hello, I'm running into some difficulties configuring port mirroring on a Dell Power Connect 3548. We are running surf control web filtering software on a file server that's running Windows Server 2003. I'm trying to use port mirroring so that all the traffic going to our gateway gets mirrored to the server and monitored (to avoid having to use a hub instead). I got the source port on the switch configured (the gateway, port 1) and the destination port configured (the Windows Server, port 2). There are two NIC's on the server, both plugged into our LAN. The one NIC I left as is and the other NIC is plugged into the mirrored port. I tried disabling the all the settings under the NIC properties and it doesn't show it's connected on the server, however on the switch it does. I unchecked Client for Microsoft Networks, File and Print Sharing for MS Networks, and TCP/IP. The only box I left checked in the NIC properties is the Surf Control Network Protocol Device Driver.
I was under the impression that mirrored port cannot have a TCP/IP configuration, if so how does it connect to the switch? I even tried leaving TCP/IP check to see if DHCP negotiate anythign with the switch but it didn't(we're running an entirely static network). I also tried changing the port setting on the switch to 100 full no negotiation and made the settings the same on the NIC and no such luck. Like I said before, it shows it's connected on the switch but the server is showing no connection and nothing is being filtered by Surf Control. Am I missing something or doing something wrong? Thank you!
